APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) are a common attack vector in computer networks. They are designed to be exposed to users, third parties, or other entities for usage, which often makes them a prime target for malicious activity. With the continued rise in APIs in enterprise networks over the past decade, it is critical to be aware of common API risks and vulnerabilities.

Zero trust is a cybersecurity strategy which prioritizes data centric security regardless of user location, which works well for securing APIs. This workshop will explain why APIs are critical network components, define common API risks and vulnerabilities with corresponding examples, and discuss recommendations on how to mitigate these common issues through the usage of a zero trust cybersecurity strategy.
